Questions and answers about the election

203,000 Chemnitz residents are called upon to elect the head of the city of Chemnitz for the next seven years. Four candidates are standing for election. The 161 polling stations will be open again on Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm. They are located in the same buildings as for the election on 16 June.

The orderly running of the polling stations in Chemnitz will be ensured by 1,800 voluntary electoral assistants in 161 electoral boards. As on 16 June, the incoming election results can be followed from 6 p.m. on the evening of the election Sunday in the City Council Chamber of the Town Hall. All information on the mayoral election is also available on the City of Chemnitz website at www.chemnitz.de

Here are the answers to the most important questions about the election:

Where can I vote?

On Sunday, everyone votes at the same polling station as in the first round. If you are voting for the first time: The address of the polling station can be found on the polling card that every eligible voter received by post before the first round of voting.

You can vote immediately at the town hall until 4 pm on Friday, 28 June 2013. To do so, you must come to the postal voting centre on the ground floor and bring the polling card and your identity card or passport with you.

You can also apply for postal voting documents at the town hall by 4 pm on Friday so that you can vote at home. Important: The voting documents must be returned in good time so that they are available for the count at the town hall on Sunday. If this is too short by post: Either post the documents in the deadline letterboxes at the town hall or the community centre on the Wall by 6 pm on Sunday. Or hand them in at the postal voting centre by 4 pm on Friday. Or hand them in at the town hall/postal voting centre on Sunday. Postal voting documents cannot be handed in at polling stations.

What do I need to bring to the polling station on Sunday?

The polling card. If I no longer have the card, I will definitely need an identity card or passport.

What if I no longer have the polling card?

Then an identity card or passport will suffice.

Where are the polling stations?

The polling stations on 30 June 2013 are located in the same rooms as for the election on 16 June 2013. The address and polling station number can be found on the polling card.

Where can I get information about my polling station if the polling card is no longer available?

Information on polling stations can be found, for example, at www.chemnitz.de under the link "Information on the mayoral election" in the "Polling station search" section. There you can enter your address and find the right polling station. Information is also available from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. by dialling 115.

Is the polling station accessible?

A symbol is printed on the polling card to indicate whether the polling station in question is accessible.

I have applied for postal voting documents but would prefer to go to the polling station on Sunday. Is that possible?

Yes, please bring the postal voting documents and your passport or identity card with you to the polling station. Please note: Postal voting documents from spouses, parents or others cannot be handed in at the polling station. (For submission options: see first answer)

If I want to vote by post, by when and how can I do this?

Postal voting documents can be applied for in the following ways:

- In person at the town hall by 4 p.m. on Friday, 28 June,

- electronically via the website www.chemnitz.de using the application form by Friday, 1 p.m,

- in writing using the application form on the back of the election notification card.
