Autumn holidays in Chemnitz
From 12 to 24 October, schoolchildren in Saxony are on their autumn holidays. To make sure no one gets bored during the holidays, we’ve put together some ideas for things to do, either on your own or with the whole family. This list is by no means exhaustive; changes may occur.
We wish all the children a lovely and relaxing holiday!
Animal park and game reserve
The zoo and the wildlife enclosure are once again open for visitors to explore during the autumn half-term holidays. Both facilities are open daily in October from 9 am to 5 pm.
A range of activities at both centres provide plenty of variety:

City library
During the autumn half-term holidays, the municipal library invites children and young people to explore, try things out and get creative.
Programming with Scratch – Games, animation and more at the Central Library

Spooky Crafting – Autumn Magic at the Central Library

Audio drama workshop – stories for your ears at the Library Lab

The Red Tower as a bedside lamp
For the new special exhibition "fit. A Saxon success story", children on holiday can design bedside lamps in the shape of the Red Tower from empty washing-up liquid bottles. There are no limits to their creativity.

Children's tour with Robi Robot
Holiday children experience machines in operation and can try their hand at various stations.

From the steam engine to the factory of the future
Every day except Mondays, 1 pm to 2 pm
On a holiday tour, children embark on an exciting journey through industrial history. There’s plenty of technology and history to discover in the museum. Booking via the Industrial Museum is required.
Ice sports centre
During the autumn half-term holidays, the Ice Sports Centre offers a range of sessions for public ice skating.
The ice rink at the Jutta Müller Ice Sports Centre will be open from Monday to Friday and on Sunday mornings during the first week of the school holidays.
On Sunday 18 October, the 400-metre speed skating track at the Jutta Müller Ice Sports Centre will also open. From 2 pm to 6 pm, you can skate your first laps outdoors to music from a DJ. Should the weather not be favourable, the event will take place in the ice rink.
During the second week of the holidays, both the ice rink and the speed skating track will offer additional skating sessions.
Swimming pools
The indoor swimming pools in Chemnitz will be open as usual during the autumn half-term holidays.
Due to maintenance work, the Bernsdorfer Bad will be closed from 12 to 14 October.
The 50-metre pool at the Stadtbad will also be open from 9 am to 3 pm on 12 and 13 October.

Municipal Swimming Pool – Family Fun
Sunday, 11 October | 25-metre pool
From 10 am to 11 am, there will be an opportunity to take a swimming test. This will be followed by family swimming from 11 am to 3 pm, featuring high diving and a water play area!
Bernsdorfer Bad – Autumn holiday fun
17–18 October and 24–25 October
On both holiday weekends, the Aquaparcours invites you to enjoy “fun and games” in the water.
solaris facilities
Whether it’s 3D pen art, basket weaving, robotics or a virtual trip to the ISS – at the solaris centres, children and young people can get creative, try out new things and go on a journey of discovery during the autumn half-term holidays. Various excursions are also on the programme.
moreKraftwerk e. V.
In the creative workshop, children can get creative however they like. Depending on the activities on offer, they can create little works of art from a variety of materials for a small fee. 13 to 16 and 20 to 23 October, from 9.30 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3 pm each day.

The holiday programme for 10- to 13-year-olds includes photography, puzzles, upcycling and going on discovery tours together. Every day of the holidays brings a different experience centred around the railway and the museum. 13 to 16 October, 10 am to 1 pm each day
moreBotanical Garden
In the Botanical Garden's vivarium, you can admire a variety of amphibians, fish and reptiles, as well as arthropods and insects. The guided tour offers insights into the world of these animals and provides knowledge about their keeping and special features.
On 14 and 21 October, at 11.00 am on both days, visitors can admire amphibians, fish, reptiles and other animals in the Botanical Garden’s vivarium. There will also be a guided tour of the animal enclosures at the Botanical Garden on 19 October at 10.00 am.
