Chemnitz International
As a link, the twinning programme connects the city of Chemnitz with its twin towns at both the administrative and community levels. It provides financial support for community projects and implements its own projects at the administrative level. Making these projects and connections visible is a fundamental part of the twinning programme.
The EU Unit within the department coordinates and supports transnational EU projects run by the city, as well as by Chemnitz-based associations and institutions. It advises on European Union funding opportunities, seeks out partners across Europe and carries out public relations work.
Twin cities
Chemnitz is on friendly terms with twelve twin cities. While Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic) can be reached within 90 minutes by car, Taiyuan (People's Republic of China) and Akron (USA) are almost 8,000 kilometres away from Chemnitz. Regardless of the geographical location, large or small distances and different cultures, every partnership is a great enrichment for Chemnitz.

The European Union offers its more than 500 million citizens in 28 member states a common living and economic space. The EU Office in the Mayor's Office of the City of Chemnitz coordinates and supports transnational EU projects of the city, Chemnitz associations and institutions. It advises on funding opportunities from the European Union, searches for partners in Europe and carries out public relations work.
