Small-scale projects

Chemnitz City Council’s Cultural Funding Scheme: Small-scale projects 2022

Through its small-scale project funding scheme, the City of Chemnitz provides short-term financial support for cultural projects that are not intended to be long-term. The project must be a single, self-contained initiative with clearly defined timeframes and scope.

Applications for the Small Projects Grant Scheme can be submitted from 1 March to 15 November of the current year, provided that a reserve fund has been approved. The reserve fund is a budget that is re-approved annually by the City of Chemnitz’s Culture Committee. Small-scale projects are financed from this budget. Applications may only be submitted if the Committee has approved such a fund for the current year.

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the Amt24 service portal.

Small-scale projects

Funding for a small-scale project:
on an ongoing basis between 1 March and 15 November of the current year

Funding is available for projects with a cultural or artistic focus, for example:

  • events, cultural experiments, exhibitions, readings
  • Small festivals, films, artistic workshops
  • Theatre and music projects, intercultural work
  • Cultural education initiatives

A prerequisite is that the proposed project is in the public interest and that the public has the opportunity to participate in the project with minimal barriers.

The projects for which funding is sought must be completed by 31 December of the same year. Funding amounts to up to 2,000 euros and a maximum of 80 per cent of the total eligible expenditure. A minimum contribution of 20 per cent must be demonstrated in the cost and financing plan. This own contribution may be provided from the applicant’s own funds or through contributions from third parties (e.g. sponsorship, other grants, admission fees). So-called non-monetary contributions – that is, contributions that cannot be quantified in monetary terms (such as voluntary work) – are not recognised.

The thematic focus should, in principle, be aligned with the City of Chemnitz’s cultural strategy.
Funding for small-scale projects is intended as a sub-category of funding under the City of Chemnitz’s guidelines for the award of grants in the field of art and culture – cultural funding.
