Information on the dismantling of the Christmas market (23 December 2012) and the felling of the Christmas spruce (7 January 2013)
New Year's Eve market at the town hall: On Monday, 31 December 2012 , there will be one more opportunity to buy fresh produce for the New Year's Eve celebrations at the Neumarkt near the town hall. The market is open on the last day of the old year from 8 am to 12 noon. On offer at the New Year's Eve market will be carp and trout, spices, sauerkraut, gherkins and olives, butchery and bakery products, dairy products as well as flowers and green plants. Market visitors and walkers will also be catered for.
Start of the weekly market 2013: The weekly market at the town hall will start again regularly in the new year on Tuesday, 8 January 2013 - open Tuesday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and on Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.
The weekly markets on Ernst-Enge-Straße and Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße will start on Wednesday, 2 January 2013 and the weekly market on Georgstraße am Brühl on Thursday, 3 January 2013.
Dismantling of the 2012 Christmas market: On Sunday, 23 December 2012 , the dismantling of the Christmas market will begin immediately after the end of this year's Christmas market from 9 pm. It goes without saying that the dismantling will be carried out as quickly and quietly as possible. Residents in the area are asked to understand that some of the work, such as loading and removing the huts, may be a little louder.
Cleaning and felling of the Christmas tree: After the New Year (6 January 2013), the Chemnitz Christmas tree will be cleaned in the morning of Monday, 7 January 2013 and then felled at lunchtime from 1 pm. As usual, the branches of the Christmas spruce will be handed over to Chemnitz Zoo for its residents. The mighty trunk of the tree will be used to harvest wood and, after the necessary storage time, will be used to repair benches and fences. The large Christmas pyramid and the candle arch will also be dismantled on 7 January 2013 and carefully packed and stored for "hibernation".
Enquiries from the public are possible at the Market Department of the City of Chemnitz Public Order Office on 0371 488-3130.
