In the Rabenstein district: 900 bushes and shrubs and over 90 new trees are planted
Parks department begins extensive landscaping work - around 240,000 euros will be invested in compensation and replacement measures for the expansion of Zschopauer Straße by summer 2013
Following the preparatory surveying and staking out work, work will begin on site at the start of the 44th calendar week, starting with thinning out the existing trees and shrubs. This will include cutting out dead wood and felling four dead ash trees (street trees), as well as work to partially plough up the land on the plot of land and setting out work. The main construction work will follow from the beginning of November and should be completed by summer 2013.
This extensive measure to enhance the area from a nature conservation point of view was planned under the responsibility of the Green Space Office, which is in charge of the project, in collaboration with the nature conservation authority at the Environmental Agency. The aim is to expand an existing natural wetland in the selected area into an extensive wet grassland complex - the technical term used in landscape conservation - through the expansion and seeding of the area. The conditions for natural watercourse development will also be created - here as an open ditch: approx. 440 metres of open ditches and two alternating wetland swales will be created to wet the area. The plan is to create hedgerows with a total of 900 shrubs, hedges (deciduous trees approx. 1.25 to 2.50 metres high) and shrubs such as wild pear, hazelnut, willow, sloe, wild rose and raspberry. A total of 93 new trees (bird cherry and wood pear) will also be planted along the roadside area of Röhrsdorfer Straße.
The planting work is expected to begin in mid/late November 2012.
Landscape architect Petra Rosenblatt from Hainichen has been commissioned with the planning, realisation and local construction supervision of the extensive landscaping work. The local company Garten- und Landschaftsbau Gert Findeklee from Chemnitz Röhrsdorf will carry out the construction work following a public tender.
The maintenance services for the newly created areas will be continued by the contractor until autumn 2014.
