Heligoland and Nordpark released
Intervention areas in Chemnitzaue Park can be used
The two intervention areas that were created as part of the "Stadt am Fluss" infrastructure project in the Schloßchemnitz district in the Chemnitzaue park directly on the Chemnitz have been released and can now be used without restriction.
Heligoland
An attractive pathway, the Helgoland intervention area, was created between Müllerstrasse and Eckstrasse along the banks of the Chemnitz on the site formerly occupied by the "Helgoland" allotment gardens. The sand-slurry pathway was equipped with seating, shrubs and a natural stone access to the riverbank.
In addition to the redesign of the green space, the corner road was renovated and partially dismantled in a further construction phase.
The work was carried out by the company Steinbach & Richter GbR. Construction supervision was carried out by the planning office ibb Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH.
The construction costs for the Helgoland intervention area totalled approx. 170,000 euros.
The Helgoland intervention area is now open for use. Remaining work, such as the installation of the railing for fall protection and the planting of three trees, will take place this year.
North Park
The bank of the Chemnitz, which is already easily accessible in the Hauboldstraße area, has been redesigned as the Nordpark intervention area. Five sun loungers with integrated tables were set up on the bank and a weeping willow was planted. The neighbouring pavilion was also renovated.
The work was carried out by the companies Steinbach & Richter GbR (landscaping work) and Der Dachdecker K.-H. Wehr GmbH (refurbishment of the pavilion).
Construction supervision was carried out by the planning office ibb Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH.
The construction costs for the Nordpark intervention area amount to approx. 12,000n euros for the landscaping work and approx. 15,000 euros for the refurbishment of the pavilion.
Background
The 30 intervention areas are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and are being created throughout the city.
Helgoland and Nordpark are part of the "Stadt am Fluss" (City by the River) project, which aims to bring various watercourses in the city back to life.
