Dr Paolo Cecconi, Head of the Chemnitz City Archive, is now an expert on an advisory board advising on the new structure of the content of training to become a specialist in media and information services (FAMI). The aim is for the reorganised training to come into force for the 2026/2027 training year.
The background to the establishment of the advisory board, which took place at the end of 2024, is an application to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection for the reorganisation of FAMI training. Both the employers' and employees' umbrella organisations have nominated experts. The advisory board is supported by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).
Two full experts for the employer side and two for the employee side have been appointed to the advisory board for the archives specialisation, which is part of the training. Due to the experience of the Chemnitz City Archive in training in the FAMI subject area of archives, the head of the Chemnitz City Archive, Dr Paolo Cecconi, has been appointed as an expert for the employer side.

Background:
The current ordinance on vocational training for media and information services specialists has been in force since 3 June 1998 and was last amended on 15 March 2000.
However, the requirements in this profession have changed constantly in recent years. In addition to database applications, new work equipment and methods, new forms of centralised work organisation are also being used and are changing the profession. It is therefore necessary to adapt the training content and examination requirements.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) has analysed the content and structure of vocational training with a view to future qualification requirements for media and information services specialists. In particular, the current structure of the training regulations with five specialisations, changes in the requirements of the profession as a whole and changes in work processes due to increasing digitalisation were examined.
As a result, discussions took place between the social partners in the public sector and the private sector, which initiated the reorganisation. In particular, the specialisations and their specific content are being reviewed and restructured.
