About the town twinning: The town twinning between Chemnitz and Manchester, which was established in 1983, forms the framework for exchanges in the cultural and sporting fields as well as in work with senior citizens. There are particularly close contacts between the industrial museums in Chemnitz and Manchester. The joint participation of Chemnitz and Manchester citizens in EU projects such as the COMENIUS Regio project and the "Youth Involvement" project is also intensive. The annual European Neighbourhood Day in the Chemnitz district of Sonnenberg, which is also organised with guests from Manchester, is also a fixed date in the Europe Week programme. An updated version of the twinning agreement between the two cities was signed in 2003.
