On Friday, 12 June, the German-American meeting day "Meet the USA! Culture. Dialogue. Encounter." will take place. The City of Chemnitz is organising the format together with the Consulate General of the United States of America in Leipzig and is focusing specifically on personal encounters, exchange formats and open interaction.

On the occasion of the World Cup taking place in the USA, Canada and Mexico and as part of the GAPP exchange programme, pupils from Goethe-Gymnasium will be playing against young people from the USA.

Coffee and cake
Interested parties can talk to the Consul General, the Lord Mayor, alumni and current scholarship holders of transatlantic exchange programmes over coffee and cake in the Stadtwirtschaft Chemnitz. The German-American Institute Saxony (DAIS) is hosting the afternoon

Round table discussion
Will Europe and the USA come closer together again after the current political crises or drift further apart? And does German foreign policy also affect our everyday lives? The City of Chemnitz invites you to a public round table discussion where current issues in German-American relations can be discussed.
Laura-Louise Scheller, representative of the Federal Foreign Office and currently working in the country department for the USA and Canada, and Prof Dr Kai Oppermann, holder of the Chair of International Politics at Chemnitz University of Technology, will be on site. Admission is free

Cultural programme with live music and literary contributions
In addition to the Big Band of the Municipal Music School, "The Soldiers Chorus - a High-Energy Pop and Rock Band" will round off the evening musically.
The Europe Direct Office in Chemnitz will also provide information about relations between the EU and the USA. Admission is free

Wine Tasting
The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to a wine tasting of US wines in the Kreativhof of the Stadtwirtschaft
The event provides insights into the development of Californian viticulture: from its beginnings to its current importance as the most important wine region in the USA. A selection of wines can be tasted on site. The event is free of charge, registration at: www.chemnitz.de/winetasting.
