08.10.2021: Puppet theatre "Save Mortimer"

31.08.2021: Stone snake of the Young Nature Guards Chemnitz

Place: Chemnitz nature conservation centre

In the "Stone Snake" project, children, young people and interested parties formed a chain of painted stones. Motifs ranging from favourite animals to favourite plants were illustrated. The starting point was the "JuNa" owl (strix lapidea-prasinea) at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Centre.

03.07.2021, 9 to 11 am: Species identification day

On "Species Identification Day", the children were allowed to use a spotting scope to try and read large and small rings. Everyone present realised that this is not so easy. The rings were on a table in close proximity and not on a moving bird in the distance.

Project manager Claudia Feger talked about the origin of the name "Adebar" and why it is an animal with the attribute of bringing babies. Using the fable "The Fox and the Stork" by Aesop, she explained further characteristics of the stork and its depiction in literature and history with reference to school lessons. Over biscuits and ice cream, which the family had specially provided for the children, the storks on the chimney were observed for a long time.

The children from the Chemnitz NATURE Discoverers working group had prepared and presented the family, who had made it possible for us to hold the species identification day on their private property, with lots of colourful pictures and handicrafts as a small thank-you gift.

30.06.2021: Competition "Who lives there!"

Place: Chemnitz

In the "Who lives there!" competition, children submitted pictures of nest boxes they had painted themselves and stories about what was happening in the nest boxes. The best pictures and stories were published. The three best authors in each age group also received a prize.

30.06.2021: World Children's Painting Day 2021: Nature through children's eyes

Location: Chemnitz

The younger members of the Chemnitz NATURE Explorers working group submitted paintings to the head of the working group, Mrs Feger, for World Children's Day under the motto "Discover nature - on land". The pictures contained the experiences that the young explorers had made while exploring nature. Children all over the world were invited to take part in the campaign.

18.03.2021 9 am to 3 pm: "Max Meise" campaign

Location: Chemnitz

During the "Max Meise" campaign, interested children had the opportunity to pick up a nesting box kit at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Centre. These were used to build nesting boxes for birds such as various species of tits, including great tits, blue tits, starlings and redstarts, at home. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was not possible to build nest boxes together on site this year. Max Meise - nest box building for young and old is a 21-year cooperation between the Chemnitz Environment Agency, the Saxon Ornithologists' Association and the "Young Nature Guards Chemnitz" project.

The "Young Nature Guards Saxony" programme aims to get children and young people interested in nature conservation and train them to become young and old "experts". Perhaps they will later even become active as nature conservation helpers? They are needed everywhere. They observe nature, provide information about it and are an important part of nature conservation in Saxony. For example, nature conservation assistants also provide support with mapping tasks or take on the supervision of special conservation areas.
