Youth welfare committee gives the green light: 130,000 euros for projects and offers for children and young people - independent organisations receive grant for building projects of approx. 1.7 million euros

At its meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the Youth Welfare Committee gave the green light to ten draft resolutions submitted by the administration for approval. In addition, the City of Chemnitz's Children's Commissioner, Karin Genkel, presented her 2012 activity report at the meeting of the Youth Welfare Committee.

Funding of measures from the Socio-Cultural Youth Fund: The funding proposal submitted by the administration for measures from the Socio-Cultural Youth Fund - details can be found in the publication in the City of Chemnitz's council information system at www.chemnitz.de - was discussed in two meetings of the Socio-Cultural Youth Fund working group before the committee passed the resolution. Approval has now been given for 28 projects, for which a total of 50,000 euros will be made available from the city's budget.

The measures funded in this way in 2013 include the 17th children's festival on the Küchwaldwiese. They include the 17th children's festival on the Küchwaldwiese and an intergenerational open-air project by the Mozart Society on the Brühl, a media education project by the ASB for young people with severe physical disabilities to edit their own film material and a project by the AG In- und Ausländer with children and young people in this year's Intercultural Weeks programme.

Promotion of school-related youth work programmes:

The Youth Welfare Committee decided to provide funding totalling 80,000 euros for a total of 14 projects that provide services as part of school-related youth work for the operation of school meeting places. The funding is based on the valid guidelines of the Office for Youth and Family Affairs for the funding of school-related youth work programmes in the city of Chemnitz.

Grants to recognised independent youth welfare organisations: At its meeting, the Youth Welfare Committee also voted on a total of eight proposals from the administration, with which recognised independent youth welfare organisations receive extensive grants totalling a good 1.7 million euros for the implementation of construction measures in the daycare centres under their management.

The subsidies for building projects at day-care centres are made up of both federal and state funding as well as funds from the city of Chemmnitz.

Specifically, these are the following building projects:

  • Ev.-Luth. Kirchgemeinde St. Pauli Kreuz: approx. 375,000 euros for the demolition of a building, the replacement construction of an entrance area with integrated serving kitchen and rooms for a group unit in the Heneriettenstraße 10 daycare centre (first construction phase).
  • Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienhilfe e.V.: 230,000 euros for the energy-efficient renovation of the outer skin and the loft extension (first construction phase) of the Kirchweg 8 daycare centre.
  • young connections e. V.: 200,000 euros for planning services and the first construction phase of the complete refurbishment of the children's and youth leisure centre at Otto-Planer-Staße 6.
  • Berliner Institut für Kleinkindpädagogik und familienbegleitendende Kinderbetreuung (BIK) e. V.: 100,000 euros for the renovation of the fencing as well as extension work and additions to the daycare centre at Pappelstraße 14.
  • Volkssolidarität/Stadtverband Chemnitz e. V.: 70,000 euros for the renewal of a medical line in the Sebastian-Bach-Straße 21 daycare centre.
  • Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienhilfe e. V.: 505,000 euros for the 2nd construction phase of the complete refurbishment of the Stadlerstraße 10 daycare centre.
  • Kindervereinigung Chemnitz e. V.: 135,000 euros for the draining and drainage of the garden area and for the enclosure of the daycare centre at 119/121 Usti nad Labem Street.
  • Sportjugend Chemnitz e. V. im SSBC e.V.: 60,000 euros for the continuation of planning services for the complete refurbishment with 2nd construction phase fire protection of the Wilhelm-Firl-Straße 2/4 daycare centre.
