Your day, your city

International Youth Day on 12 August, featuring a wide range of events – the Mayor’s youth consultation session from 3 pm, City Library

On Wednesday 12 August – International Youth Day – young people will once again be the focus of attention in Chemnitz. This day was established by the United Nations to draw particular attention to young people and to highlight how important it is to involve them in shaping their city.

Since 2023, many dedicated partners have been working to ensure that this day receives greater attention and that various activities and events are celebrated. For example, DIY sessions at the Punkt West youth club, the Filmwerkstatt’s film week and a DJ workshop organised by the Enter the Music project all invite young people to give them a go.

On this day, Mayor Sven Schulze will be taking the time to chat with young people in person: from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm, they are invited to drop in at the youth section of Chemnitz City Library in the TIETZ. No registration is required.

In Konkordiapark, from 4 pm onwards, young people can try their hand at being a DJ, show off their skills on slacklines, pedal the smoothie bike, spray graffiti or simply chill out and enjoy the day. From 8.15 pm, they’ll be pedalling hard at the first Urban Sports Movie Night at the Fahrradkino. The film being shown is a cult classic among skateboarding films: Machotaildrop.
