The central event organised by the City of Chemnitz and the Chemnitz Network of Women's Initiatives to mark this year's Women's Day will take place on Friday, 14 March from 16:45 to 21:45 in the hall of the Kraftwerk socio-cultural centre (Kaßbergstraße 36). The citizens of Chemnitz are cordially invited to attend. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will deliver the city's greetings. According to Chemnitz Equal Opportunities Officer Bettina Bezold, the motto of the central event is "WOMEN LIVE VILEFALT". The documentary film "This one day together" by Beate Kunath will be shown. In her film, the well-known filmmaker - herself a native of Chemnitz - presents portraits of women from Chemnitz's twin towns.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the festive event as well as to all other Women's Weeks events from 2 March until 21 March.
Contact and registration: Participation in the Women's Day event on 14 March is free of charge - however, advance registration is requested for planning purposes. The contact person for further enquiries is Bettina Bezold, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Chemnitz, phone 0371/488-1380, e-mail: bettina.bezold@stadt-chemnitz.de
Bettina Bezold, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Chemnitz: "The documentary film shows the reality and diversity of women's lives. The women have their birthdays in common, but their lives, dreams, wishes, failures and successes are different. In what is now a good tradition, we also want to honour women from our midst on this day and of course we want to celebrate together. The women of Chemnitz are cordially invited - both to the celebratory event on 14 March and to participate in the many other offers and activities during our Women's Weeks from 2 March to 21 March."
Women's Day Action Weeks: The network of women's initiatives is once again organising Women's Day Action Weeks this year. During the Women's Weeks from 2 to 21 March, the members of the Chemnitz Women's Initiatives Network are offering many events. These include a brunch on 2 March at the Lila Villa women's centre, a breakfast meeting of NeLe e.V. with information on self-employment as a sideline on 3 March at Kraftwerk e.V., a workshop on gender mainstreaming and diversity management at the Women's Centre on 7 March, an information event on stalking on 12 March at the Health Department, a lecture on current problems of gender equality on 18 March at Bürgerhaus City and many more.
The final event will be EQUAL PAY DAY on 21 March. This day marks the period of time that women have to work beyond the turn of the year in order to reach the average annual salary of men.
