From tomorrow, 16 October, until Thursday, 30 October, the city library invites you to a varied programme of events under the title "Universum Bibliothek".
The focus is on the Day of Libraries, which is celebrated throughout Germany on 24 October and draws attention to the wide range of services offered by more than 8,000 libraries. These present themselves as indispensable cultural and educational institutions with a wide range of readings, workshops, gaming and more.
Programme highlights of the Chemnitz City Library
- Kick-off on Thursday, 16 October, 5 pm:
Migration expert Gerald Knaus presents the new book "What kind of Europe do we need?" together with his daughter at TIETZ. (see also press release 706) - Children's and family readings:
Exciting author readings - with fantasy author Mo Enders on Thursday, 23 October, 7 pm, Jörg Isermeyer on Tuesday, 28 October, 4.30 pm, and Boris Koch on Wednesday, 29 October, 4.30 pm - whisk you away to magical worlds, romance and gripping stories. - Thriller lovers welcome:
Bestselling author Frank Goldammer will be presenting another episode about his Dresden detective Bruch on Tuesday, 28 October at 5 pm in the Vita-Center library. - Theme day in the library lab on Saturday, 18 October, 2 to 6 pm:
Gaming, making and coding for the whole family - interactive experiments and creative discoveries. - Open day on Friday, 24 October, 2 to 6 pm:
A look behind the scenes at the city library - insights into work processes, collections (historical and digital) and services on offer. - Halloween Game Night on Thursday, 30 October, 6 pm to 10 pm:
Finale of the programme with pen & paper role-playing, cooperative gaming and the escape game "Stephen King" for adults only

- Discount campaign On the occasion of the Day of Libraries, anyone without a valid library card will receive a 20 percent discount on the annual fee when registering at the city library from 20 to 25 October 2025.
