Francesca Knaus was born in Austria in 2000 and grew up in Istanbul, Paris, Cambridge (USA) and Berlin. She studied European Studies at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in EU law, Central and Eastern Europe. She is co-founder of the European Debate Initiative (EDI), a youth organisation based in Copenhagen, which won the European Citizens' Prize in 2021. Since 2021, she has been working as a research assistant in the German Bundestag on foreign policy and human rights.

On Thursday 16 October at 5 pm, interested parties are invited to a reading with Francesca and Gerald Knaus followed by a discussion in the event room of the Central Library in the TIETZ. Entitled "What kind of Europe do we need? A political miracle and how we can protect it from its enemies", they will present their joint book. The event will be moderated by Prof Dr Stefan Garsztecki, TU Chemnitz.

Gerald Knaus, born in Austria in 1970, is the founding director of the European Stability Initiative (ESI) think tank. He is an internationally recognised expert and advises governments and institutions in Europe on the topics of refugees, migration and human rights. He studied philosophy, politics and international relations in Oxford, Brussels and Bologna, is a founding member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and was an Associate Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School - John F. Kennedy School of Governance in the USA for five years. Gerald Knaus lives in Berlin.
