Two days for registration for the 2024/25 school year

Construction-related relocations should be taken into account

Children born between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018 will be required to attend school at the start of the 2024/2025 school year. Registration is possible on Thursday, 24 August and Tuesday, 29 August from 2 pm to 6 pm at the desired municipal primary school in the relevant school district.

If the child is registered at an independent primary school, a municipal primary school in the relevant school district must be notified in writing by 15 September 2023.

At least one custodial parent must be present to register the child and must submit the following documents

  • fully completed registration form (available at www.chemnitz.de as well as at the school office and the municipal primary schools)
  • Identity card of the parent/guardian registering the child
  • Birth certificate of the child starting school
  • In the case of sole custody, proof of this is required

Please note that there are some construction-related relocations:

  • For example, registration for the Chemnitz Cooperation School (school district IV) takes place in the current relocation property in the school building at Wittgensdorfer Straße 121.
  • Registrations for the Adelsberg primary school (school district V) will be accepted in the mobile classrooms at the J.-A.-Comenius primary school, Comeniusstrasse 1, where the Adelsberg primary school is expected to be relocated until summer 2024.
  • Children who are to be enrolled at the Annenschule primary school (school district V) will initially go to the "Südlicher Sonnenberg" primary school at Jakobstraße 20, where they will also be enrolled.


The "Grundschule Charlottenstraße" will be established as a new primary school location in school district V at the start of the 2024/2025 school year, which will initially be housed in the mobile classrooms at Comeniusstrasse 1 (J.- A.-Comenius-Grundschule) due to construction work. Enrolment for this school takes place at Harthau Primary School, Stöcklstraße 4.
