By the end of February 2025, nine marked trees in Wasserwerkspark will have to be felled, removed or cleared of their dead wood. Without exception, these works are urgent measures that serve to maintain or establish road safety at property boundaries or heavily used paths.
They are permitted by law and have been authorised by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. The wood from the felled trees remains in the forest as valuable deadwood for insects, fungi, mosses and lichens.
A number of old trees in the "Hangwald am Wasserwerkspark" natural monument show signs of severe damage. They are suffering from the increasingly dry summers.
Contrary to the name "Wasserwerkspark", this is a forest in the sense of the Saxon Forest Act, i.e. not a park according to the green space statutes.
Therefore, the regulations of the municipal tree protection statutes are not applied, but those of forest management.
