Tree felling begins in the Chemnitz urban area

Traffic safety measures will be carried out between 1 October 2026 and 28 February 2027

Between 1 October 2026 and 28 February 2027, 123 trees in public green spaces will be felled (see attached list). Without exception, this work involves urgent measures designed to maintain or restore road safety. During ongoing tree inspections, it was established that immediate action was required in respect of these trees.

Most of the felling will take place in the green space ‘0606 Markersdorf Nord/FZ-Wilhelm-Firl-Straße’ (twelve trees felled) and in the green spaces along Markersdorfer Straße in the areas ‘0588 Markersdorfer Straße/Teich’ and ‘FV 0589 Meinersdorfer Straße/Markersdorfer Straße’ (a total of 23 trees felled).

All tree maintenance measures carried out in accordance with the duty to ensure public safety are legally permissible and do not constitute a breach of Section 39 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG) or Section 25 of the Saxon Nature Conservation Act (SächsNatSchG).
The timber from the felled trees becomes the property of the company commissioned to carry out the felling.

Separate information regarding replacement tree planting will be provided in due course.
