Traffic restrictions for Chemnitz Peace Day on 5 March

Due to the events and demonstrations for the Chemnitz Peace Day next Tuesday, 5 March, there may be traffic restrictions in the afternoon and evening. This applies in particular around the authorised demonstration routes. However, the aim of all those involved is to minimise disruption to the flow of traffic.

Traffic restrictions and closures on 5 March

Reichenhainer Straße will be closed between Dittesstraße and Gustav-Freytag-Straße from 10 am. All other areas of Reichenhainer Straße, including the access roads, will be freely accessible until 4 pm. The area around the Südbahnhof railway station will also be closed from 10 am.

Further closures will follow from 4 pm due to the authorised events: This affects Annaberger Straße between Bahnhofstraße and Treffurthstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße between Lutherstraße and Bahnhofstraße and Reichsstraße, Gustav-Freytag-Straße and Ritterstraße between Zwickauer Straße and Zschopauer Straße.

Access for residents and businesses to the closed area will be guaranteed.

There will be no permanent closures for Straße der Nationen, Brückenstraße, Theaterstraße and Mühlenstraße. Bahnhofstraße will also remain open to traffic for as long as possible.

From the afternoon onwards, operational closures by the police are to be expected. As the officers will secure each route of the procession, these restrictions should be kept as short as possible.

Parking facilities and stopping restrictions

We kindly ask you to observe the parking bans required and already signposted in the residential areas on Tuesday between 11 am and 11 pm. The multi-storey car parks in the city centre will be open as usual, with a few exceptions.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

CVAG will endeavour to drive as close as possible to the closed sections for as long as possible within the framework of the closures necessitated by the events and demonstrations.

The following changes and restrictions will apply:

City bus routes 22 and 51 will be rerouted in the Südbahnhof area from around 10 a.m. on a small scale and from 4 p.m. on a large scale.

Services on tram line 2 will be suspended from around 4.30 p.m.; an emergency bus service will be set up between the Bernsdorf terminus and the central stop.

Light rail lines 5 and 522 will be diverted in both directions via Stollberger Str. from around 4.30 pm. In addition, two light rail shuttle services will be set up (between the Altchemnitz terminus and Rößlerstraße and between Morgenleite and Krenkelstraße).

All centre-oriented lines may also be affected by further operational changes.

Children's facilities/schools

The following children's facilities are located in the assembly area: the Clara-Zetkin-Straße 1 daycare centre (AWO), the Brauhausstraße early intervention centre (Heim gGmbH), the Reichenhainer Straße 33 daycare centre, the Fritz-Reuter-Straße 30 daycare centre, the Moritzstraße 33 daycare centre, the Wiesenstraße 1 daycare centre and the Waisenstraße 3 daycare centre.

All centres have been informed and have asked parents to collect their children by 15:45 on this day if possible. Children who cannot be picked up until after 3.45 pm will attend another daycare centre in the afternoon, as was the case last year.

The two schools within the assembly area, Annen Primary School and Annen Secondary School, have also been informed.

Citizens' consultation on 12 March

Citizens who would like to attend the monthly Citizens' Consultation of Mayor Barbara Ludwig should note the following change of date: Due to the events on the occasion of the Chemnitz Peace Day 2013, the Citizens' Consultation will not take place on the first Tuesday of the month as usual, but one week later on Tuesday, 12 March 2013 at 5 pm. March 2013, 5 pm.

Citizens can register on this day from 4.30 pm to 6 pm at Chemnitz City Hall, Markt 1, in the Mayor's office (Room 221).

Each citizen will have around 20 minutes to present their concerns to the Lord Mayor and a member of staff from the Citizens' Office. Those who are unable to attend on this day due to high demand will be given an appointment shortly afterwards.

The City of Chemnitz will also be operating its citizens' hotline on Peace Day by dialling 115 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Chemnitz Police Headquarters will be operating its contact hotline on 0371 387 2022 from 9 a.m. until around 10 p.m.
