The Fritz Heckert area - an attempt to solve the housing issue
Lecture in the TIETZ event hall, 25 October, 6 p.m.
On Thursday, 25 October at 6 p.m., a lecture on the topic of "The Fritz Heckert area - an attempt to solve the housing issue" will take place in the TIETZ event hall. The speaker will be civil engineer and landscape architect Norbert Engst. Admission is free.
Norbert Engst will shed light on the development of housing in Chemnitz since around 1900, refer to the beginnings of co-operative and social housing construction and highlight the effects of the destruction caused by the war on the housing situation as well as the start of new construction up until the 1970s. He traces the development of the territory of the later Heckert area, shows early plans for the Südring and for an "Auto Union City". He looks at the plans for the individual building areas, shows the building development and also the deficits. Finally, he talks about the development of the area over the last 25 years. Ultimately, this attempt to solve the housing issue also remained unfinished.
This year, Chemnitz is celebrating its 875th anniversary. A joint project by the Chemnitz History Society, the Chemnitz Saxon Industrial Museum, the Schloßberg Museum, the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology and the Chemnitz City Archive entitled "875 years of history in twelve months" is honouring the city's history.
