Storing and preserving food

Adult education centre: Workshop on 28 May, from 2 to 5 pm, at the Chemnitz Environmental Centre

On Saturday, 28 May, from 2 to 5 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, together with the Chemnitz Environmental Centre and the Zietenaugust Community Garden, invites you to a practical workshop on preserving and storing food.

The event is free of charge and takes place at the Chemnitz Environmental Centre, Henriettenstraße 5. Registration at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488-4343 is recommended.

What to do with the fruits of the garden that cannot be eaten immediately? True to the motto "Today I plant, tomorrow I preserve and the day after tomorrow I eat it all!", the focus is on growing and utilising fruit and vegetables from your own garden or from regional cultivation. If the harvest turns out to be somewhat larger or surplus produce needs to be used up, tried-and-tested or newly discovered physical, biological and chemical methods can help. Experienced practitioners will present methods such as preserving, freezing and fermenting. Helpful everyday tips will be passed on during the discussion.

The event is part of the workshop series "Growing - Preserving - Preparing".

In the third and final part on 10 September 2022, everything will revolve around cooking and preparing the harvested food in the teaching kitchen of the adult education centre.
