Stefan Heym talk at the Villa Esche

On Thursday, 18 October 2012, 7:30 pm, the second Stefan Heym Talk in this series of events will take place at Villa Esche (Parkstraße 58, 09120 Chemnitz). Chemnitz-born Professor Wolfgang Emmerich, literary scholar from Bremen, and Dresden sculptor and Judaist Marion Kahnemann will talk about Stefan Heym's 1972 novel "The King David Report", which is one of the author's most successful works.

As the office of the International Stefan Heym Society e. V. in the Cultural Office of the City of Chemnitz, the dialogue partners and the audience will embark on a search for clues that leads from the Old Testament to the 1970s in the GDR and, among other things, explore the questions posed by Heym in his novel "King David's Report" as to what extent the abuse of power and corruptibility are still relevant today.

Wolfgang Emmerich is a recognised expert on GDR literature, while Marion Kahnemann, who studied Jewish Studies in Stockholm, has been exploring Jewish texts in her art for years. The evening will be moderated by Professor Bernadette Malinowski, holder of the Chair of Modern German and Comparative Literature at Chemnitz University of Technology.
