Start of construction for green corridor on the Pleißenbach in Chemnitz-Altendorf
The first works for the redesign of the former goods railway station in the Altendorf district are about to begin under the direction of the City of Chemnitz Green Space Office.
After many years of "Sleeping Beauty" for the Altendorf railway station site, the first step will be to clear the way for the planned landscaping and hydraulic engineering work. The site will be cleared of existing trees and shrubs.
In addition to the planned felling and clearing work, extensive tree care work is also planned. Some of the valuable trees that have been integrated into the new design concept will be preserved. The company Forst und Land GmbH Hillig from Wolkenstein in the Ore Mountains was commissioned to carry out the work.
To replace the habitats lost as a result of the felling and clearing, an approximately 1.3-hectare compensation area with new shrub islands for shrub-breeding birds (e.g. for the garden warbler) is being created around 1.5 kilometres away as the crow flies in Rottluff. for the garden warbler - a small songbird). This measure serves to protect species and is being implemented in accordance with nature conservation requirements. The Grünbau Bad Schlema company from Aue-Bad Schlema was commissioned with this work.
In a first construction phase, the watercourse construction in the Pleißenbach green corridor will also begin. To the west of Rudolf-Krahl-Straße on the site of an industrial ruin that has already been demolished, the first work will be carried out at the beginning of February. The work will be carried out by the company Steinbach & Richter GbR from Lichtenau, which not only has experience in gardening and landscaping, but also in watercourse construction in particular.
The course of the Pleißenbach stream had been straightened in large parts in a non-natural development. It is now to be renaturalised in accordance with the development plan. Bank and bed stabilisation will be dismantled and piping will be opened up in order to transform the Pleißenbach back into a natural watercourse. By modelling a near-natural watercourse profile, the planned measures are intended to revive the ecological functions of the stream.
In total, the renaturalisation of the Pleißenbach covers a flow length of around 1,800 metres, which will be implemented in four construction phases. The landscape architecture firm Station C23 from Leipzig was commissioned with the planning and construction supervision, supported by the engineering firm Stowasserplan from Radebeul for the watercourse reorganisation work.
It will not be possible to cross the site during the construction work. Noise from machinery during the day must be expected throughout the construction period.
The order volume for these measures totals 638,000 euros. The work should be completed by the end of May 2023.
