Special tours of the zoo during the autumn holidays

Premiere: Public feeding of the giant salamander from 21 October 11 a.m. every Sunday morning

The autumn holidays start in Saxony on Monday (22.10.) - and Chemnitz Zoo and the associated wildlife park in Rabenstein (see also PM 618 from 12.10.2012 - www.chemnitz.de) are among the most rewarding holiday and excursion destinations for the whole family.

A special guided tour of the animal park in the grounds on Nevoigtstraße is available from 11 a.m. on the following holiday dates: Tuesday, 23 Oct, Wednesday, 24 Oct, Thursday, 25 Oct, Friday, 26 Oct, Monday, 29 Oct, Tuesday, 30 Oct and on Thursday, 1 Nov and Friday, 2 Nov. The guided tour, informs zoo director Anja Dube, will last around 30 to 45 minutes in each case. The meeting point is at the ticket office in the zoo.

On Sunday (21 October) at 11 a.m., visitors can also watch the beautiful giant salamander being fed in the zoo's vivarium. According to information from the zoo, this opportunity will be offered every Sunday at 11 a.m. and will take place in the travelling salamander's "home" in room 4 of the vivarium.

This new public feeding complements the existing offer for visitors to the zoo, who can watch the marmosets, porcupines, coatis and sloths being fed and foraged.

Biologist Tim Schikora is responsible for the special guided tours - a free service offered by the zoo. The public feedings, which are also free of charge for visitors to the zoo, are organised by the respective animal keepers.

During the school autumn holidays - with the exception of the public holiday (31.10.) - the Rabenstein wildlife enclosure will once again be open on weekdays at 11.00 a.m. for show feedings: The lynxes, wolves, mouflons and wild boar will alternate between the two meeting points.
