Halle Ousmane, Mayor of Timbuktu, Chemnitz's twin city in Mali, is expected to pay a working visit to Chemnitz from 19 to 26 March 2013. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will welcome her counterpart and receive him for talks. (PM 104 from 13.03.2013).

Invitation to the public information event organised by Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS) and the City of Chemnitz: The topic is the variants of the Chemnitz model in its stage 2 in the area of Reichenhainer Straße. Mayor Berthold Brehm, representatives of the city council and Bernd Aschauer, spokesman for the Chemnitz-Timbuktu Association, will take part in the joint lunch (PM 104 from 13 March 2013).

Saturday, 23 March
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig takes part in the opening of the association meeting of the Chemnitz city federation of allotment gardeners.
Time and place: 9 a.m., Luxor event centre, Richard-Hartmann-Straße.

The Saxony-wide Water Day will be celebrated in Chemnitz with a citizens' festival on Falkeplatz and Mayor Barbara Ludwig invites the people of Chemnitz to join in. Dr Fritz Jäckel, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, is expected to attend the public festival. A tree planting event will take place on site at 11 am. Fish will also be released into the Chemnitz. At 3.00 p.m., the community water campaign will start the big water drop experiment. Aqualino, the day's mascot, will always be there.

Chemnitz residents are invited to take part in the traditional spring cleaning campaign organised by the City of Chemnitz and the waste disposal and city cleaning company. The campaign is once again being organised under the motto "For a clean Chemnitz" and is being held under the patronage of Mayor Miko Runkel; the "Golden Broom" competition is being launched at the same time. Mayor Barbara Ludwig welcomes the representatives of the Lions Clubs of all federal states with a reception. The Lions clubs meet in Chemnitz for their 5th Council of Governors meeting.

The opera "The Duchess of Malfi" by Torsten Rasch will have its German premiere at the Chemnitz Municipal Theatres. Dietrich W. Hilsberg is responsible for the production, the musical director is GMD Frank Beermann. The performance will be presented in English with German surtitles.
