Monday, 12 May
Regular press conference with the mayor and the mayors before the last meeting of Chemnitz City Council in the current legislative period on 21 May 2014 (PM 262 from 08.05.2014).

Tuesday, 13 May

The 14th Chemnitz Textile Technology Conference is being held at Chemnitz University of Technology under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz.

The two-day conference on 13/14 May is being organised by the Cetex Chemnitzer Textilmaschinenentwicklung e.V. association together with the Institute for Lightweight Structures and the Institute for Materials Handling and Plastics at the TUC, the Association of the North-East German Textile and Clothing Industry and the Saxon Textile Research Institute.

Wednesday, 14 May

The city's social services department is organising the third integration fair in Chemnitz together with Chemnitz institutions. In addition to advice and information offers, the programme also includes a specialist lecture on the employment of foreign skilled workers (PM 262 from 09.05.2014).

Time and place: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., TIETZ building.

From 14 to 16 May 2014, four trade shows will be united under one roof at Messe Chemnitz: the Saxon Industry and Technology Trade Fair SIT, mtex - Textiles and Lightweight Construction in Vehicle Manufacturing, LiMA - Lightweight Construction in Mechanical and Plant Engineering and the IT User Forum will showcase the capabilities of the regional economy.
Mayor Miko Runkel will take part in the opening ceremony on behalf of the Lord Mayoress. The 6th edition of the SIT will take place in Chemnitz. Exhibitors from the US twin city Akron will also be guests at the stand of the local TCC.

Thursday, 15 May

Opening of the State Museum of Archaeology in Chemnitz (smac):

The State Museum of Archaeology Chemnitz will be ceremonially opened with a tour for around 400 invited guests followed by a festive event. Among the guests of honour welcomed by smac Director Dr Sabine Wolfram were the Federal Minister of Education and Research Johanna Wanka, the Saxon Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich, the Mayor of Chemnitz Barbara Ludwig and Prof. Dr Michael Rind, Deputy Mayor of Chemnitz. Dr Michael Rind, Deputy Chairman of the Association of State Archaeologists in Germany, as well as members of the Schocken family, descendants of the former founder of the department stores' group Samuel Schocken.

The Schocken shop in Chemnitz was opened on 15 May 1930. Built to a design by architect Erich Mendelsohn, the building is now internationally regarded as an architectural icon.

Friday, 16 May

Opening of the State Museum of Archaeology in Chemnitz (smac):

Reception by Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig for the members of the Schocken family, descendants of the founder of the department stores' group Samuel Schocken, who are visiting Chemnitz for the opening of the smac. After lunch together in the Ratskeller, the Lord Mayor honoured her guests with an entry in the city's Golden Book.

Opening of the State Museum of Archaeology in Chemnitz (smac):

Museum Director Dr Sabine Wolfram, Mayor of Culture Philipp Rochold and Thomas Früh, Head of the Art Department at the SMWK, welcome around 350 invited Chemnitz residents to the opening evening at the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology.

Time and place: 19:30, Museum am, Stefan-Heym-Platz 1.

Exhibition from Chemnitz in the twin city of Lodz: "News from the Perm" will be shown at the Museum of Textile Studies in Lodz. Guests from Chemnitz at the opening will be Dr Thorid Zierold, curator at the Museum of Natural History Chemnitz, and the designer Prof. Ines Bruhn.

The exhibition is part of an international jewellery art project by the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History in collaboration with the Chemnitz Artists' Association.

Saturday, 17 May

4. Edition of CHEMLYMPICS, the sports festival for adults with disabilities: The competition for the challenge cup of the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, will be held in the disciplines of running, long jump, medicine ball long throw, archery and on the wheelchair course, organised by the sponsors of facilities for people with disabilities (SFZ Förderzentrum gGmbH, Lebenshilfe Chemnitz e. V., Lebenshilfe Chemnitz e. V., SFZ Förderzentrum gGmbH).V., Stadtmission Chemnitz e.V., Heim gGmbH) in cooperation with the association "Miteinander statt Gegeneinander" and the City of Chemnitz's representative for the disabled, Petra Liebetrau

7th Chemnitz Women's Run under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz: The charity run is organised under the motto "Women run for women against violence against women and children". The donations raised will go to the Chemnitz Women's Refuge and the Intervention and Coordination Centre for Combating Domestic Violence.

Time and place: Start 12 noon, meeting point CPSV sports ground at Forststraße 9.

The Mayor of Chemnitz has taken on the patronage of the first BalletBenefizGala of the Chemnitz Municipal Theatre. Participants in the gala include renowned ballet and dance theatre ensembles from all over Germany. The proceeds from the evening will go to the Parents' Association for Children with Cancer and the associated children's hospice services "Schmetterling" and "Westsachsen".
