Safety-related evaluation of events becomes easier

As a licensing authority and service centre, the City of Chemnitz Public Order Office handles numerous events every year on the basis of the city's police regulations and advises organisers on matters such as event safety. In cooperation with numerous authorities involved in the event approval process (including the police, fire brigade, building permit office, environmental office and rescue association), a tool has been developed in recent months for the safety-related assessment of events.
With this tool, event organisers can first assess the event safety aspects themselves before submitting an application and then compare these with the concerns of the approval authority. Any necessary changes to the event or security concept can thus be realised at an early stage and in direct coordination with the public order office.
For this purpose, 14 safety-relevant factors are evaluated in an Excel tool with the help of an explanation in the document. These include access routes, escape and rescue routes, the condition of the event area, extinguishing water supply and medical security.
The subsequently calculated safety coefficient evaluates the event, shows the hazard potential and clarifies the possible need to draw up a safety concept or take further measures to ensure that the event can be approved.
On this basis, the public order office can provide support and advice and later synchronise possible event requirements during the planning phase. After the current open-air season, the tool will be evaluated for practicability and, if necessary, adapted with regard to the Capital of Culture year 2025.
Mayor Knut Kunze on the new tool: "Numerous specialist departments and authorities have been involved in the development of this new tool under the leadership of the Public Order Office and have contributed their many years of experience in the field of event safety to the process in order to enable a comprehensive safety-related assessment of events. Particularly in view of the 2024 open-air season that has already started and, of course, the upcoming Capital of Culture year, the tool is a further building block in our city's security architecture and should enable safe events for everyone."
In addition to further information material on event planning, the tool is available to all event organisers as a download and can now be found in the City of Chemnitz's service portal at www.chemnitz.de/veranstaltungsanmeldung.
Only an Office application is required to complete the tool. The completed table can be voluntarily attached to the application for an event licence.
