Rising costs and cases in youth welfare and youth welfare offices
City Council decides to provide additional funds totalling around 17 million euros
At its meeting yesterday, the city council decided to allocate additional funds totalling around 17 million euros to the youth welfare office and youth welfare services for this year.
The reasons for these additional costs in youth welfare lie in various areas: On the one hand, the personnel and material costs of many organisations that work with the Youth Welfare Office have risen significantly due to collective wage agreements or general cost developments. There are also higher case numbers in the area of educational support.
In the area of the Youth Welfare Office itself, the additional costs are also due to changes in social legislation and the resulting much larger group of beneficiaries.
For example, there are around 1,200 additional applications for the full assumption of parental contributions. Payments of maintenance advances by the youth welfare office have also increased. Finally, the costs of the independent daycare centre providers in the material and personnel areas have also risen due to general developments and must be offset.
In order to cover the additional costs totalling around 17 million euros, income from trade tax, which has been higher than expected, is being used. The Youth Welfare Office is also trying to make internal savings in many areas in order to absorb the expenditure.
There is proportionately more money from the Free State for the higher maintenance allowances and the higher daycare centre costs.
