On Monday, 25 August at 11 a.m., Renate Aris will sign the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz in the presence of Lord Mayor Sven Schulze at the Jewish Community, Webergasse 3. The occasion is Renate Aris' 90th birthday. The entry will take place during a reception for invited guests in her honour.

Renate Aris is one of the last survivors of the Holocaust in Saxony and has campaigned for many years for understanding and humanity and against forgetting the crimes of the National Socialists. She was awarded the Saxon Order of Merit in 2016 and is the recipient of the Chemnitz Peace Prize for her lifetime achievements.
She was born in Dresden on 25 August 1935 and experienced the bombing of her hometown as a child. After the war, she trained as a dressmaker and worked at the Theater der Jungen Generation and the Elbe-Elster-Theater before coming to Chemnitz in 1969, where the largest colour television studio of GDR television was set up in the Kulturpalast in Reichenbrand. She was head of the costume department at the Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz studios until 1990.
Renate Aris was actively involved in the management of the Jewish community for many years, including 15 years as deputy chairwoman and founder of the Jewish Women's Association. As a contemporary witness, she still speaks to school classes and young people today.
