Registration of school starters for the 2025/26 school year
On 8 and 13 August 2024, both from 2 to 6 p.m. at the desired municipal primary school
Children born between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 will be required to attend school from the start of the 2025/2026 school year. Registration will take place on Thursday, 8 August and Tuesday, 13 August from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the desired municipal primary school in the relevant school district. The currently valid statutes of the City of Chemnitz for determining the school districts can be viewed at www.chemnitz.de/schulanmeldung.
If parents would like to register their child at an independent primary school, this must be communicated in writing to a municipal primary school in the relevant school district by 15 September 2024. The enrolment deadlines for independent primary schools can be obtained directly from them.
At least one custodial parent must be present for enrolment and must submit the following documents
- fully completed registration form (available at www.chemnitz.de/schulanmeldung as well as at the school office and the local primary schools)
- Valid identity card of the parent/guardian registering the child
- Birth certificate of the child starting school (original)
- In the case of sole custody, proof of custody is required (original)
The search for primary schools can be simplified at www.chemnitz.de/schulanmeldung in the interactive city map by entering the home address.
Current school route maps with recommendations for a safe route to school as well as information on existing danger spots can also be called up in the interactive city map.
Current relocations of schools to alternative buildings can be viewed at www.chemnitz.de/grundschulen.
School entrance examination - appointments can now be booked
In addition to school enrolment, all future schoolchildren also have to undergo a school entrance examination. During this examination, the child's level of development is determined. Health restrictions that are important for school attendance can be recognised and support options identified. The examination is compulsory. Children who were deferred in the previous year must also undergo a new school admission examination.
The examination takes place in the Office for Health and Prevention, Am Rathaus 8, on the 3rd floor and lasts a total of 60 minutes.
It is necessary to make an appointment. Examination dates are available from August.
Appointments can be booked immediately and exclusively via the City of Chemnitz's participation portal: www.chemnitz.de/termin_schulaufnahmeuntersuchung
