Registration of first-year pupils for the 2020/2021 school year
On 27 and 28 August 2019, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the desired municipal primary school
Children born between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014 will be required to attend school at the start of the 2020/2021 school year. Registration will take place on 27 and 28 August 2019, from 2 pm to 6 pm, at the desired municipal primary school in the relevant school district. The currently valid statutes of the City of Chemnitz for the determination of school districts at primary schools can be viewed here .
New: If parents wish to register their child at an independent primary school, they must notify a municipal primary school in the relevant school district in writing by 15 September 2019. The enrolment deadlines for independent primary schools can be enquired about there.
The presence of a custodial parent who must present the following documents is sufficient for enrolment:
- fully completed enrolment form(availableherehttps://www.chemnitz.de/chemnitz/de/leben-in-chemnitz/bildung/schulen/wichtiges-fuer-eltern/schulanmeldung.html)
- Identity card of the registering parent
- Birth certificate of the child starting school
- In the case of sole custody: proof required
Please note that Heinrich-Heine-Grundschule will be relocated to Comeniusstraße 1 from the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year due to construction work. Registration will take place in the Comeniusstraße 1 building.

Frequently asked questions
What happens if I don't turn up on these two days?
Parents who are unable to attend the school enrolment appointment should contact the primary school of their choice in the relevant school district and arrange another appointment there.
As a resident of Kaßberg, for example, can I also enrol my child in Schönau?
If you wish to enrol your child outside of the school district, you must submit an informal, but justified, exception request to the desired primary school by 15 February 2020 at the latest after registering at a primary school in the relevant school district.
Do I need a declaration of consent from the other parent who is not present?
The enrolment form must be signed by both parents if there is joint custody. In the case of sole custody, proof of this is required.
