Reconstruction of Dresdner Platz enters the next construction phase

Following a scheduled interruption to the construction work, the remodelling of Dresdner Platz and the construction of the new replacement bridge are continuing. The foundations and abutments for the future bridge will be installed on the west side of the square in the coming weeks.

Construction of the foundations for the new bridge abutment on the east side began at the start of April. The rising walls of the east abutment were constructed in segments using in-situ concrete. This work continued until mid-July. Due to track work by Deutsche Bahn AG as part of the "Chemnitz junction conversion" in the area of the new Dresdner Platz bridge construction, work on the construction of the abutments was interrupted as planned. From mid-July to the end of August, the railway will restore the track on the Chemnitz/Aue line (track CA) and the middle track on the Dresden/Werdau line (track DW left) and will put the electrified track into operation. Once this has been done, the interim track can be dismantled.

From the beginning of September, the foundations and rising walls of the new west abutment will be erected on the west side of the Dresdner Platz bridge on the site of the dismantled interim track. Due to the schedule agreed with DB AG, there is only a time window of six weeks available for the excavation and construction of the foundations of the west abutment. The excavation and some of the reinforced concrete work for the foundations will be carried out in three shifts. Subsequently, the rising walls of the west abutment will be erected in segments using in-situ concrete. These are to be erected by the beginning of November in accordance with the agreed schedule. An extended two-shift operation is planned for this work on weekdays from approx. 06:00 to approx. 02:00. The neighbouring property owners have been informed in advance about the construction schedule and the necessary work by the City of Chemnitz.

Once both bridge abutments have been completed, the construction of the superstructure, consisting of 68 prefabricated composite elements with in-situ concrete supplementation, can begin. The first prefabricated parts are scheduled to be installed in autumn/winter 2012.
