Reassessment of the status of the "Chemnitz AfD council faction"

Based on new information, the City of Chemnitz has reassessed the status of the "AfD Chemnitz Council Group", which was founded on 1 August. Lord Mayor Sven Schulze informed media representatives of this in a press conference today.

On 20 August, the Lord Mayor was informed in writing that City Councillor Susanne Rasch's membership of the AfD city council group had already expired on 9 July. With the resignation of twelve other city council members from the AfD city council faction on 31 July, the minimum number of three members stipulated in the city council's rules of procedure was no longer met. This meant that the AfD city council group was irrevocably dissolved.

With the dissolution of the AfD city council faction on 1 August, there were no two factions in the Chemnitz city council that were similar in terms of content or politics. As a result, the re-establishment of the "AfD Chemnitz City Council Group" took effect on 1 August.
