Prevost chipmunks drawn in
Botanic Garden: New animal species to be seen on Leipziger Straße
Two Prevost's squirrels (Callosciurus prevostii) are currently living in the Botanic Garden, Leipziger Straße 147. The two new animals, which appear to feel at home in the facility, were acquired in the spring of this year.
The tropical animals are originally native to Thailand, Borneo and Malaysia. Their high adaptability to other climatic conditions and habitats makes it possible to keep the animals here in Chemnitz in a species-appropriate manner. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), the species is not classified as endangered.
The two beautiful squirrels should settle in well here. They can already be viewed by visitors.
