From 20 to 24 October, the Sportjugend im Stadtsportbund Chemnitz and Chemnitz sports clubs are inviting children to take part in the 11th Sports Week. Children aged 6 to 12 are invited to take part in various training programmes at the clubs' sports facilities free of charge.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig invites you to a press conference with the internationally renowned writer and playwright Pavel Kohout on the occasion of the 2014 Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding, which will be awarded in Chemnitz on 22 October 2014. Dr Peter Becher, Adalbert Stifter Verein, and the Chemnitz artist Michael Morgner will also take part in the press conference (PM 606 from 20.10.2014).

Mayor Miko Runkel takes part in the festive event organised by the Metalworkers' Industrial Union to honour its long-serving employees on behalf of the Lord Mayor.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig takes part in the festive event to honour the 2014 Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding and presents the art prize together with the artist Michael Morgner. The art prize, which is awarded by a committee of German and Czech partners, honours the playwright, author and politician Pavel Kohout and the former German ambassador to Prague, Hermann Huber. The theatre scholar Jitka Ludvová and Dirk du Pin, former school headmaster, will receive honorary prizes (PM 605 from 17.10.2014).

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig meets with the city councillors from the parliamentary groups of Chemnitz City Council.

Saturday, 25 October
Premiere of the Chemnitz production of the opera "Die Tote Stadt" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957). The musical director of the performance is GMD Frank Beermann, Helen Malkovsky is responsible for the staging.
The work, which premiered in 1920, was one of the most frequently performed pieces in the 1920s.
