The newly constructed viaduct in the new neighbourhood park on Pleißenbach can now be used. The illuminated bridge connects the neighbourhoods of Kaßberg and Altendorf between Limbacher Straße and Gutsweg and is open to pedestrians and cyclists. In the event of snowfall, the bridge - as in all municipal parks - is only accessible at your own risk. The cost of the viaduct is around 1.5 million euros.
The temporary scaffolding bridge on Erzbergerstraße is already being dismantled. The city of Chemnitz had rented this for the construction period of the new viaduct in order to ensure a pedestrian connection between the two districts.
Meanwhile, work is continuing in the neighbourhood park at Pleißenbach. The construction site in this construction phase stretches from Rudolf-Krahl-Straße to Paul-Jäkel-Straße and between Limbacher Straße and Gutsweg. In addition to the continuation of the premium cycle path, which is around one kilometre long, new park paths are being created. High-quality planting enhances the site: a total of around 100 standard trees, 4,000 shrubs, 7,500 perennials and 25,000 square metres of seeding with various seed mixtures. Numerous attractive recreational areas are also being created.
One highlight is the playground, which will be available to children aged 3 to 12 from June 2025. Children contributed significantly to the planning with their ideas. 452 submitted questionnaires and drawings were analysed in order to take their wishes into account. Other criteria were also incorporated into the planning, including the implementation of an inclusive play concept and high standards of material quality and creativity. An evaluation matrix for the competition was developed on this basis. After the award procedure was completed, the realisation of the project was entrusted to the company SpielplatzManufaktur from Teltow near Berlin.
The original character of the former goods station will be preserved. Historical elements such as parts of the railway tracks, the loading promenade and the successive growth of trees and shrubs form the basis of the redesign. The renaturalisation of the Pleißenbach stream will create an extensive extensive landscape with high recreational value.
The neighbourhood park on the Pleißenbach is part of the "Stadt am Fluss" intervention areas. Attractive places are being created along the Chemnitz and its tributaries for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, connecting the city and the river in a new way.
Techno-Farm und Service GmbH from Neukirchen/Adorf was awarded the contract following a Europe-wide tendering process. The planning office Station C23 from Leipzig is in charge of the overall "Stadtteilpark am Pleißenbach" project. The project is being funded by the Free State of Saxony and the urban development subsidy programme.
