Participants of the Summer Philharmonic Orchestra visit Chemnitz Town Hall

Almost 100 young musicians and singers will be welcomed on Wednesday (17 July) at 4:30 pm in Chemnitz Town Hall at Markt 1. The music school pupils and music students are among the participants in the Summer Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of the Saxon Mozart Society, which is sponsored by the European Union.

The young people will be welcomed to the Town Hall by Pia Sachs, EU Coordinator in the Mayor's Office of the City of Chemnitz, who will also inform the guests from various European countries about Chemnitz's EU work.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.

The young singers and musicians (photo) come from various European countries, such as Romania, Denmark, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Poland, including Chemnitz's partner cities Łódź and Ústí nad Labem. As part of the EU project, the choir and orchestra will present themselves on Wednesday evening with a concert from 7 p.m. on Chemnitz Theatre Square. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will be one of the concert guests.

Tomorrow, Tuesday (16 July), the musicians will perform a concert in Chomutov, Bohemia. Another joint performance will take place on Thursday (18 July) in Dresden's Kreuzkirche.

Pia Sachs: "We are very much looking forward to meeting the young musicians and singers. The European Summer Philharmonic 2013 with the Summer Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir promotes and develops mutual understanding not only by making music together, but also through various leisure activities and visits to cultural institutions."

At the reception in the town hall, the guests will receive information about the city of Chemnitz and European work in Chemnitz. According to Pia Sachs, one aim of the project is also to develop lasting contacts with the European partners, which will also be cultivated in follow-up projects.
