Outdoor pool season starts on 18 May
Operating times of the Chemnitz indoor and outdoor swimming pools 2024
This year's outdoor pool season in the Wittgensdorf and Gablenz outdoor pools begins on Saturday, 18 May. The Einsiedel outdoor pool follows a week later, on Saturday 25 May.
The outdoor pool area of the Bernsdorf pool will not be available in the 2024 season due to ongoing construction work. The reservoir in Rabenstein will open at the beginning of May.
The outdoor pools are open at the following times
- Pre-season, 18 May to 14 June: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- High season, 15 June to 11 August: 10 am to 8 pm
- Post-season, 12 August to 1 September: 11 am to 7 pm
If the weather is exceptionally fine, the pool may stay open longer in the evening or open earlier in the morning in the early and late season. This decision is made by the pool staff depending on weather conditions and operational readiness.
The outdoor pool season ends at the Gablenz and Wittgensdorf outdoor pools on 1 September and at the Einsiedel outdoor pool on 25 August. We reserve the right to close the outdoor pools or the outdoor pool season early due to weather conditions.
As a pilot project, the "Am Südring" indoor swimming pool will optionally open at weekends in the 2024 season in the event of persistently bad weather. At the same time, the Einsiedel outdoor pool will not be open at weekends in the early and late season.
During the outdoor pool season in the school holidays, as every year, maintenance and repair work is carried out in the indoor pools. Their annual closing times are preferably used for this purpose.

Swimming clubs / special opening times for the municipal pool (summer)
To support the city's swimming clubs, which are restricted in their preparation for competitions due to the summer closure of the indoor pools, and for swimmers who are also unable to use the pools during the summer months.who would also like to use an indoor pool during the summer school holidays, special opening times will also be offered in the municipal pool for public use and training in 2024.
As things stand at present, the 50-metre hall will be open from 3 June to 14 July and from 12 August to 1 September and the 25-metre hall from 15 July to 11 August.
School swimming
As the summer holidays end on 4 August this year - during the actual peak season for outdoor pools - this poses a particular challenge in terms of planning, as the indoor pools also have to open for school and club sports with a one-week delay.
Guaranteeing school swimming is a mandatory task for the city of Chemnitz. To this end, the opening and closing times of the indoor swimming pools for 2024 were discussed and agreed in advance with the State Office for Schools and Education and the school swimming centre.
In agreement with the State Office for Schools and Education, there will be no school swimming in the first week of school after the summer holidays.
