Out of Chemnitz? A comic project about origin, change and courage

City library: Comic reading and discussion on 4 February, 7 p.m., TIETZ, event hall

On Wednesday, 4 February at 7 pm, interested parties are invited to a comic reading with Stephanie Brittnacher (project manager & comic), Magdalena Kaszuba (comic) and Vũ Vân Phm (cultural worker & education officer) in the TIETZ, event hall (3rd floor).
Admission is free of charge. Registration is possible via the event booking link.

"Out of Chemnitz?" tells six stories of women who have left Chemnitz. Conversations between the women and the artists involved have resulted in short episodes that make their experiences, ruptures and decisions comprehensible.

The reading provides an insight into the project and opens up space for dialogue and exchange. What role does origin play - and where does belonging arise?

Magdalena Kaszuba (Hamburg) creates illustrations and comics, completed a master's degree in illustration design at HAW Hamburg, co-directed the Hamburg-based MamiVerlag from 2019 to 2025 and works primarily on socio-political topics and realities of life in graphic novels. In 2025, she received a working scholarship for literature & comics from the City of Hamburg (comic category) and showed works at the Hamburg Comic Festival, among others.

Vũ Vân Phm (Leipzig) is a cultural worker and educational consultant specialising in the Vietnamese diaspora and anti-racism. She was involved in editing the interactive comic app "Glasfäden - Aus dem Osten in den Osten", which is based on interviews from the Vietnamese community in Chemnitz and is part of the production "So glücklich, dass du Angst bekommst". From 2026, she will also be working at the NSU Documentation Centre in Chemnitz.

Stephanie Brittnacher (Chemnitz) studied communication design in Mainz and then worked as a graphic designer in Dresden for three years. In 2013, she moved to Chemnitz with her daughter, where she has since made her home as a freelance illustrator and designer.
