Opening of the Literature Days Leselust goes Europe

City Library: Live musical radio play "Radio Nacht" with Yuri Andrukhovych and band Karbido on 7 March, 7 pm at Weltecho

On Friday, 7 March at 7 pm, the Leselust goes Europe - Literarisches aus Deutschland, Tschechien, Polen und der Ukraine literature festival will open with the live radio play "Radio Nacht" with Yuri Andrukhovych and the band Karbido at Weltecho.

The author Yuri Andrukhovych is one of the most important contemporary Ukrainian writers and intellectuals. Together with the band Karbido from Wroclaw, Poland, he will perform the German translation of his novel "Radio Nacht" in a musical and literary setting. This Ukrainian-Polish performance by a writer who has been honoured with international awards - including the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding - will be a fittingly spectacular start to the Leselust Literature Days.

Admission costs 8 euros. Pupils, students and refugees from Ukraine are admitted free of charge.

The theatre evening is a musical interpretation of texts from the novel "Radio Nacht", read performatively by the author (in German with Ukrainian surtitles).
It is the story of an opponent of the regime who imitates his own radio programme in a hiding place (perhaps in prison). The background to the story is the time of the pandemic, climate protests and Russian aggression - a time of burgeoning hopes for radical change.
