Open Monument Day on 10 September
From 10 a.m. guided tours at many locations, 3.30 p.m. opening of the exhibition on the Mikveh, 5 p.m. Closing event in the town church of St Jakobi, Jakobikirchplatz 1
On Sunday, 10 September, from 10 a.m., numerous events will begin at various monuments for this year's Open Monument Day in Chemnitz, organised by the respective monument owners, associations, architects and employees of the City of Chemnitz's monument protection authority.
The motto of this year's nationwide Open Monument Day is "Talent Monument". In other words, the special talents of a monument or memorial that make it stand out from other objects are in demand.
In addition to the Karl Marx Monument and the municipal cemetery, the following participating monuments have been registered with the City of Chemnitz: Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Mühle (Limbacher Straße 380), Tram Museum (Zwickauer Straße 164), Kulturpalast Rabenstein (Unritzstraße 40), Schauplatz Eisenbahn (Frankenberger Straße 172), Städtischer Friedhof (Reichenhainer Straße, Wartburgstraße), Küchwaldklinikum (Bürgerstraße 2), Industriemuseum Chemnitz (Zwickauer Straße 119), Stiftskirche Ebersdorf (Mittweidaer Straße 79), Friedhof und Kirche St. Nikolai (Michaelstraße 15) and many more. As one of the highlights, Mayor Michael Stötzer will open the exhibition on the Mikveh in Chemnitz Town Hall at 3.30 pm. A guided tour will be offered at 4 and 5 pm. (see press release 577)
The closing event of the Monument Day will take place from 5 p.m. in the city church of St Jakobi with the presentation of the restored apostles at their new location on the north side and a concert.
