Night at the museum: with lots on offer for young and old
Museum of Natural History: open on 13 May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
On Saturday 13 May, the Museum of Natural History at the TIETZ will be open from 10 am to 1 pm and from 6 pm to 1 am on Museum Night. In order to prepare the museum ticket office on the ground floor of the TIETZ and the exhibition rooms for the Museum Night, the Museum of Natural History will not be open from 1 pm to 6 pm.
For the Museum Night on 13 May, the Museum of Natural History in the TIETZ and its branch on the excavation site, Glockenstraße 17, will offer a wide range of activities for young and old:
From 6 p.m., museum guests will be offered a colourful programme. In addition to the well-known permanent exhibitions - Sterzeleanum, Historical Cabinet and Insectarium - special objects will be shown as interventions in the exhibition. Museum educators offer the popular museum rally and various creative activities to join in with.
An entomologist will introduce interested visitors to the secrets of butterfly preparation using a practical example: Anyone who has prepared a tropical butterfly can collect it from the museum after three weeks and take it home with them.
Journeys into the world of the Permian can be booked with a palaeontologist: Plants and animals from the Petrified Forest come to life in VR glasses.
From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., visitors can look over the shoulders of the excavation team at the excavation site in Glockenstraße 17 as they excavate and prepare fossils, admire the latest finds, receive information about the current excavation and learn new details about volcanism in Chemnitz. A museum educator has exciting activities in store for young fossil researchers.
