New stumbling block for Curt Schubert

The new stumbling stone for Curt Schubert will be laid on Wednesday, 20 July at 10.30 am. In May of this year, the first stumbling stone for Curt Schubert, which had commemorated the fate of the KPD member at Münchner Straße 31 since September 2016, was broken out of the footpath by unknown persons. The new stone will now be reinstalled in the same place.
Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
Members of the AG Stolpersteine will organise the laying of the stumbling blocks. The Montessori School Chemnitz will also be involved. The sponsoring organisation VVN-BdA has taken over the sponsorship for the laying of the new stones.
The laying of the Stolperstein for Curt Schubert on 20 September 2016 was the first time a class at the Montessori School had witnessed the laying of a Stolperstein. This was a trigger for the pupils to delve even deeper into the history of National Socialism. This was followed by a great deal of commitment from the school and the regular sponsorship of a stumbling block.
Curt Schubert, born in 1897, was a KPD member and member of the resistance during the Nazi regime. He worked with the Ernst Enge group against the war and supported Russian forced labourers. He was therefore arrested by the Gestapo in September 1944 and sentenced to death in Waldheim on 11 April 1945. The sentence was not carried out as the Allied armies were already in Waldheim and Curt Schubert was liberated. After the end of the war, in the night from 29 to 30 June 1946, Curt Schubert was murdered near the Wißmannhof.
