On Saturday 13 June at 2 pm, Mayor Sven Schulze will open the new skate hall on the Schönherrfabrik site at Schönherrstraße 8 together with Alexander Beck, project manager and board member of the Rollfieber e. V. association, and Steve Tietze, Managing Director of Schönherr Weba GmbH.
The hall will be open to interested children, young people and adults from 1 pm.
Representatives of the media are also welcome. The exact location of the hall on the Schönherrfabrik site can be found here.
In addition to the opportunity to explore the new roller and fun sports hall, various BMX, scooter and skateboard shows will be organised at this family, youth and sports event. There will also be moderated jam sessions, live DJ music and activities in the fingerboard area. Mobile ramps in the outdoor area of the hall also invite you to ride. Food and drinks will also be available.
The new Chemnitz skate hall is designed for the fun sports of skateboarding, BMX, dirt MTB, inline skating, scooter, rollerblading, WCMX (wheelchair) and parkour and is operated by the Rollfieber e. V. sports club. It replaces the former skate hall "Druckbude", which is also located on the Schönherrfabrik site, but no longer met the requirements. This fulfils a long-awaited wish for the regional fun sports scene.
The rolling area is just under 1000 square metres. There are also spectator and recreation areas, offices, changing rooms, reception, service station, workshop and an outdoor area.
The interior fittings for sporting use include two bowls (pools for skateboarders), two mobile curbs (for riding on an edge), a jump box, four practice elements and several ramps. The highest ramp measures around 3.20 metres. There is also a foam pit for a soft landing to try out new tricks.
The city of Chemnitz financed the sporty interior fit-out and the design of the entrance area with hire and workshop. The basis for this is a resolution passed by the city council on 15 May 2024 (BA-050/2024), which provided a sum of 700,000 euros. Due to general cost updates in the course of the construction measures and the index increase in construction prices, the final share of the City of Chemnitz is around 770,000 euros. The additional costs were financed by the City of Chemnitz Sports Department.
The building is a warehouse of the former foundry. It is owned by the company Schönherr Weba GmbH, which had previously renovated the hall for around 1.7 million euros (including plumbing, façade, ventilation and heating).
The City of Chemnitz is the tenant of the hall and sublets it to the Rollfieber e. V. sports club. In addition to purely sporting activities, the club's utilisation concept provides for youth-culturally oriented social education.
