New customer-friendly service area in the social welfare office

Customer portal opened today on the ground floor of BVZ Moritzhof

Social welfare mayor Philipp Rochold and acting head of the social welfare office Cornelia Utech opened a new customer portal on the ground floor of the Moritzhof Citizens' and Administration Centre this morning. Following renovation work, a new central point of contact has been created on the ground floor of the Moritzhof Citizens' and Administration Centre in Bahnhofstraße and will make it easier for customers of the social welfare office to apply for financial social benefits. The new service is the point of contact for people claiming financial social benefits. These are benefits that serve to secure subsistence in the broadest sense and are granted by the social welfare office. The city wants to centralise the application for these benefits, which were previously offered in eight different service areas of the social welfare office.

The new portal on the ground floor of the Moritzhof administration centre includes a waiting area for customers, who, after purchasing a ticket for the social benefit they require, are directed to the ten caseworkers in the individual benefit areas via an automatic call system.

Two other employees are on hand to provide waiting customers with quick information and general assistance, for example by logging blind and visually impaired people or people with other disabilities into the call system.

As the acting head of the social welfare office, Cornelia Utech, informs us, the customer portal will initially integrate the following services:

  • Housing benefit
  • Recognition of severely disabled status
  • Benefits in accordance with the Saxon State Blindness Benefit Act
  • Assistance for the blind
  • Federal parental allowance and Saxon state child-raising allowance
  • Benefits under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG for school education)
  • Benefits for education and participation
  • Issue of Chemnitz passes
  • Confirmation of compliance with the conditions for a reduction in or exemption from the licence fee

The customer portal is open as follows:

Monday08.30 - 12.00
Tuesday08.30 - 12.00 and 14.00 - 18.00
WednesdayClosed on
Thursday closed08.30 - 12.00 and 14.00 - 18.00
Friday closed08.30 - 12.00

The Social Welfare Office also intends to process benefits for subsistence assistance and basic security in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity in accordance with SGB XII via the customer portal at a later date. As in the previous benefit centres, applications will be issued and customers advised there. The qualified acceptance of applications as well as additional counselling and information services by expert caseworkers is guaranteed. At the same time, other possible benefit claims can be checked without any additional time or travelling. "We hope that this will increase customer satisfaction by shortening processing times and making it easier for those seeking help to apply for multiple benefits," says Cornelia Utech.

The construction work on this new service area of the social welfare office took a quarter of a year and was estimated to cost a total of 77,500 euros. In order to ensure that office hours ran smoothly during the construction work, parts of the social welfare office were temporarily relocated to the first floor of the Moritzhof.
