Monument protection and preservation in Chemnitz. Preserving the architectural values of past centuries

On Thursday, 15 November at 6 p.m., there will be a lecture on the topic: Monument protection and preservation in Chemnitz. Preserving the architectural values of past centuries. The speaker is the head of the municipal monument protection authority, Dipl.-Ing. Architect Thomas Morgenstern. Admission is free.
The long history of an old city is documented in particular by the buildings and structures from different eras. The oldest evidence in Chemnitz dates back to the end of the 12th/beginning of the 13th century. Most of these buildings and structures are now listed buildings. The basis for this today is the Saxon Monument Protection Act. However, the first attempts to inventory architectural and artistic monuments in the Kingdom of Saxony date back to the 19th century. The speaker will give a review of the city's long architectural history and present some special examples of the restoration of selected architectural monuments from his almost 30 years of experience as a monument conservator.
This year, Chemnitz is celebrating its 875th anniversary. Among other things, a joint project by the Chemnitz History Society, the Chemnitz Saxon Industrial Museum, the Schloßberg Museum, the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology and the Chemnitz City Archive entitled "875 years of history in twelve months" is honouring the city's history.
