Mayoral election in Chemnitz: second ballot required on 11 October
None of the candidates in the first round of the mayoral election in Chemnitz achieved the necessary absolute majority. Electoral officer Miko Runkel announced the provisional final result at 7.42 pm.

| Lars Faßmann | 11.470 | 11,89% |
| Jens Matthias Eberlein (FREIE WÄHLER) | 3.394 | 3,52% |
Voter turnout was 49.71%, significantly higher than in 2013.
As none of the candidates achieved an absolute majority, a second ballot is required on Sunday, 11 October. A simple majority of votes will suffice in this election.
