Mayoral election in Chemnitz: new election required on 30 June
None of the candidates in the first round of the mayoral election in Chemnitz achieved the necessary absolute majority. Chief Electoral Officer Berthold Brehm announced the provisional final result at 7.14 pm.
The results in detail:

| Jens Weis (FDP ) | 1703 | 2,09% |
| Volkmar Zschocke (Alliance 90/The Greens) | 7780 | 9,53% |
| Martin Kohlmann (Pro Chemnitz.DSU) | 4576 | 5,60% |
| Hans Jürgen Rutsatz (Volkssolidarität) | 1780 | 2,18% |
Voter turnout was 40.68 per cent, which was higher than in 2006.
As none of the candidates achieved an absolute majority, a new election is required on Sunday, 30 June. A simple majority of votes will suffice for this election.

The city election committee will determine the official final result of today's election at its meeting on Wednesday, 19 June at 7 pm. The candidate nominations for the new election will also be determined at this public meeting.
