The time of the Christmas market also means taking a first look at the time after the Christmas market and the 2014 market calendar. Here is the market information for January 2014, including information on the dates planned for the area around the town hall.
Dismantling of the Chemnitz Christmas Market 2013 and felling of the Christmas spruce: After Hohneujahr (on Monday, 6 January 2014), the Chemnitz Christmas tree will be cleaned on Tuesday, 7 January 2014 in the morning and then felled in the afternoon hours (from 1 pm). As in previous years, the branches of the beautiful, 78-year-old and 28-metre-high Christmas spruce will be donated to Chemnitz Zoo for its residents and for furnishing their outdoor enclosures. The mighty trunk of the tree will be used for timber production: Divided into "manageable" pieces on site at the market, the 2013 Chemnitz Christmas tree will ultimately be used to repair benches and fences in the city after the necessary storage period.
The large Christmas pyramid and the candle arch will be dismantled, carefully packed for "hibernation" and stored from Monday, 6 January 2014. As in previous years, the dismantling of the Christmas market huts themselves will begin on Monday evening (23 December) from 8 pm after the end of the Chemnitz Christmas market.
Start for the Chemnitz weekly market 2014 and the district markets: The weekly market at Chemnitz City Hall will start again in the new year on Wednesday, 8 January 2014. The weekly market will then be open again from Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The weekly markets in the city districts will start the new market season on Ernst-Enge-Straße and Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße on Thursday, 2 January 2014, while the weekly market on Georgstraße will start the following day on Friday, 3 January 2014.
New Year's Eve market at the town hall: We would like to remind you that there will be another opportunity to buy fresh produce for the New Year's Eve celebrations at Neumarkt am Rathaus before the turn of the year (PM 730 from 8 November 2013). The New Year's Eve market is open on Monday, 30 December from 9 am to 3 pm and on Tuesday, 31 December from 8 am to 12 noon. Carp and trout, spices, sauerkraut, gherkins, olives, butchery and bakery products, dairy products, flowers and plants will be on offer at the New Year's Eve market. The customers' physical well-being will also be catered for.
